grace in every moment

Today you’ll need a large piece of paper taped down to a surface with painters tape and two mark-making instruments. (Don’t let supplies hold you back! For example, if you don’t have a large piece of paper any old piece will do… even the back of a receipt will work in a pinch.)

Imagine a line dividing your page. With one marker (or crayon or pastel) in each hand begin to draw on the page, each hand on one side of the imaginary line mirroring each other.

Try crossing over the line and drawing different shapes with each hand. Make large shapes and small ones. Straight lines and curvy ones. Play around and do what feels fun in the moment. Follow your curiousity!

Set a timer for five minutes and keep the movement flowing the entire time. Once the timer is done, step back and admire your piece of abstract art. Remind yourself that you completed a piece of art and therefore you’re an artist!

The art doesn’t need to be seen as beautiful in your eyes. It’s just a piece of art you created. You can do anything you like with it. (My art most often goes in the trash to practice non-attachment.)

The finished piece I made in the video below got caught in the crossfire of a water fight in our backyard and was made all the better for it.
