sun tea

Sun tea is easy to make. Grab a 1 litre mason jar, put some things in it to flavour, and let it sit in the sun for 4-6 hours. Remove the things you’ve used to flavour and enjoy.

Ok, “put some things in it” is vague, but that’s where the creativity comes in. You can literally put any of your favourite tea leaves in it… think mint, nettle, anise hyssop, tulsi, orange pekoe… you get the picture! Try a heaping tablespoon of tea for a 1 litre jar to start, you can always tweak from there as you gain experience. And it doesn’t have to stop there. You could add strawberry, lemon, raspberry… whatever feels fun in the moment.

Above I put a couple sticks of cinnamon in the jar. In this experiment I realized the cinnamon sticks need two days in the sun to really coax their flavour out.

Have some fun with your flavours and see what you can create. If you don’t end up liking the tea, no big deal… the flowers are always looking for a nice watering at this time of year.
