my fave scribbling supplies

Creativity isn’t about the supplies you have, it’s about using what you have to make things!

That said, I use mostly professional grade art supplies for my scribble practice. I like the saturation of colour and feel of these higher end products. All of these brands can be purchased individually or as part of a set.

I started my collection by choosing one colour that drew me in and giving it a try. And then I’d buy one more and try that with the first one I purchased. I was able to try lots of brands this way and find the brands/supplies I like best. I recommend you do the same. Once you find the supplies that are the best fit for you, it might make sense to buy a whole set or you might want to stick with just your favourite colours.

where to buy

The links above go to Blick, an art store in the US that has great prices and stocks the brands I love. I live in Canada, so whenever I’m in the USA this is a store I visit. They offer free/affordable shipping across the USA.

Some stores in Canada I purchase from regularly are Deserres, Curry’s, Articulations, Above Ground, Delta Art and Drafting, Wyndham Art Supplies and sometimes Michaels.

If you’re in Europe, a great option is Jackson’s Art Supply.

* important note

If you are someone who worries about “wasting” supplies, the above recommendations are not for you.

Instead, find supplies that your brain can’t use “wasting” as an excuse.

Go to your nearest thrift store and pick up the cheapest mark making materials you can find. Or ask people with kids if they have any supplies they no longer need (they most likely do!). Use these supplies to make marks on the back of receipts, cardboard boxes, egg cartons, etc.

*Some of the links on this page are affiliates, which means I’ll get a wee bit of money if you purchase product through them. Since all the supplies listed here I use and love, this feels like a beautiful circle of reciprocity.

If you would like to financially support the creative work I share in another way, you can do so using the button below. When you share financial support of $12 or more I will send you a hand-painted, handwritten thank-you postcard in the mail.
