…to allow oneself to enjoy the pleasure of

I've been admiring squirrels stuffing their cheeks with rose hips. This is a new observation for me. I've never thought of rose hips as squirrel food before.

The rose hips, amongst other foraged foods, are naturally transforming the squirrel shape.

Their fat bodies move more slowly than they did in summer, making our dog increasingly more confident in her ability to catch one.

With the privilege of available food year round, we've become disconnected from these natural body rhythms.

Fattening up in fall, fasting through winter.

I'd like to take a note from the squirrels this week and indulge in food that's nourishing and coats the tummy, eating until I feel so full I couldn't eat another bite.

I've got this lentil soup in mind. It's thick and comforting and makes me feel connected to late fall rhythms.

Will you share a favourite comforting recipe to indulge in this time of year?
