sketch + haiku

I first discovered Brooke Petermann and her art years ago on Instagram.

Although I left Instagram a few years back, I've continued following her journey through her newsletters.

Recently, she shared she's creating a haiku + sketch everyday for the month of February and is inviting us to play along.

I'm not able to commit to everyday at this time, but I've created a couple and they both felt very freeing. Like carving out a little corner of life just for me.

I've always really liked haikus as the structure creates a simple container that's easy to complete. Seventeen syllables and you're done. (The beginnings of short-form social media perhaps?)

The sketches I've created feel more like doodles, which could be semantics but I felt compelled to share.

If you create a sketch + haiku and share on Instagram you can tag it #haikuandsketchchallenge.
